K-House ( Log House )

Nestled within a private site surrounded by natural landscaping in Istanbul, Çamlıca K-House (Log House) reinterprets the traditional notion of a log residence through a contemporary and urban perspective. Designed as a year-round living space rather than a seasonal retreat, the residence balances the natural warmth of timber with a refined architectural language.

Constructed from specially crafted Finnish pine logs by Honka as a modular system and assembled on-site over a reinforced concrete base, this exceptional project was honored with the German Design Award 2026 (Excellent Architecture – Interior Architecture / Residential). Within our lighting consultancy process which highlights the organic character and material richness of the architecture we developed an adaptable lighting scheme tailored to the aesthetic and functional needs of the space.

To preserve the textural depth of the log structure and reinforce architectural highlights, a unified luminaire family was utilized in accordance with spatial hierarchy and functional lighting needs. Integrated into the ceiling surface in single, double, and triple modules, these spotlights created a rhythmic general lighting framework harmonized with the architecture. General light levels were supplemented by indirect lighting concealed within ceiling and wall niches. The natural surface texture and warm tones of the timber were rendered visible through soft, comfortable transitions. In multifunctional spaces located on the basement level—such as the hobby, cinema, and gym rooms—modular magnetic track systems were specified for flexible positioning and adaptable usability. To enhance the interior design narrative, decorative luminaires featuring distinct materialities such as glass, acrylic, metal, and plexiglass were selected. Beyond serving as functional light sources, these fixtures were curated as architectural objects.

Through all these lighting decisions, Çamlıca K-House has transformed into a timeless residential atmosphere that thrives on natural light by day and the aesthetics of integrated artificial lighting by night.
