Lighting Crisis, Ishak Pasha Mosque, Macedonia
Ishak Pasha Mosque is one of the historical monuments made in Macedonia during the Ottoman Empire period. In 2014, The President of Turkey planned to visit the city to political movement so that facade walls of mosque was wanted to illuminated for showing the president.
After design, project, product selection, shipment and installation processes the facede lighting’d been completed. However, after a short time wall washers began to clipping and some of them stopped working.
The failures of products occurred region to region of facade. In the first stage fifteen luminaires were detected by side engineers. Company reproduced fifteen products to solve problem in wasy way and shipped products to the city. However, during this time due to Macedonian political issue entry and exit from country, product shipment, withdrawal of detective products etc.is not easy.
After shipment, products worked well and everybody thought that the problem had been fixed but not after long time the similar problem occurred in other areas again.
The company sent its engineer to area to checked if the problem was caused by installation or wiring. After four days of investigation the engineer who could find any fault came back to company with two samples that in size that he could carry on the flight.
The electronic design of the samples was examined by same man and it was not difficult to determine the cause of the problem. In 2013, approximately 400.000 units the top selling products’ power supply brand was changed to another brand for reducing the cost.
All products were recalled and power supplies were replaced with previously brand. The problem was fixed and the facade of mosque illumination has been worked without any problem.
Only lucky part of project period is that The President of Turkey canceled the visit plan to the city due to increasing political tension in Turkey. Therefore products were delivered without any shipment and time problem.
The saddest part of the story is that only purchase manager, RD manager and one of three shareholder of the company know that drivers of wall washer brand was changed to another. Furthermore, no explanation was given from these three names during the period.
